Mason Jar Flower Arrangement
I love mason jar flower arrangements! Mason jars are great in the kitchen, but they also make a perfect vase for flowers! They give a rustic chic look to your arrangement, and are typically less expensive than a vase from a local craft store.
For this arrangement I used a mixed bouquet of flowers from the grocery store, along with a few greens, and some hypericum berries for filler. Just as with the bud vase arrangement you can really use any mix of flowers and greens for an arrangement in a mason jar.
Tips for Vase Arrangements:
- You can always play around with your arrangement and may have to move flowers around multiple times to get the look you want.
- Be sure to give your arrangement some height as well; the highest greens or flowers should be about 1 to 1-1/2 times the height of the vase.
- The most important thing is to make sure to give your arrangement shape and dimension by putting your flowers and greens at different heights and angles.
Materials Needed:
- 1 quart wide mouth mason jar
- 3 pieces of raffia
- 2 stems of leather leaf or bakers fern
- 3 stems of ruscus
- 2 stems of eucalyptus
- 4 stems of daisy and pom pom mums
- 2 stems of alstroemeria
- 4 stems of hypericum berries
- Carnation
- Large mum
- Stem of solidago/aster
- 1 stem stock
Directions:
Step One: Fill mason jar about 3/4 full of water.
Step Two: Start by adding greens.
- Greens create the shape for your arrangement and will help to hold everything in place.
- Place two pieces of leather leaf fern in your vase.
- Next, add the three pieces of ruscus: one in the center, and the other two angled to the sides.
- Add the two stems of eucalyptus at an angle on opposite sides from the ruscus.
Step Three: Start to add the flowers.
The first two flowers I added were the solidago and the stock. They are referred to as the line flowers and will help set the height for the arrangement with the central piece of ruscus.
Step Four: Begin adding the rest of the flowers.
- First, add the alstromeria and put it lower in the arrangement. Place one stem on each side of the vase to keep it balanced.
- Second, add two of the stems of the mums at about the same level as the alstromeria, but on the opposite sides.
- Next, add the carnation and other mums to fill in spaces in between the lower flowers and the stock and solidago.
- Remember to continually turn your vase and look at the arrangement from all sides to make sure it looks balanced.
Step Five: Add the filler.
The final thing I added to my arrangement was hypericum berries. I used this to fill in between areas where there weren't any flowers and to help give the arrangement a finished look. I love hypericum because they add texture and color.
Step Six: Finishing touch.
To add a finishing touch to my arrangement I tie some raffia around the jar in a bow. Raffia gives it that little bit of extra county charm that I love.
