Meet the florist:

Katy is the owner, grower and florist for Back Porch Petals. While growing up she was heavily involved in the local 4-H and FFA programs. Between those organizations and her family she developed a passion for supporting local agriculture, gardening and floral design. After college, Katy taught agriculture at a local high school for eight years. She had always loved working with fresh flowers, but teaching floriculture to her students quickly became one of her greatest joys. Eventually, Katy and her family relocated to Ohio and she established her suburban backyard gardens which grew to become her inspiration for Back Porch Petals.

While expanding her gardens Katy spent a lot of time learning more and more about the local cut flower industry and how to grow cut flowers on a very small amount of land. She took the Floret Flower Workshop to greatly expand her knowledge on growing cut flowers for all types of floral work. Her gardens are now flourishing with a wide variety of dahlias, snapdragons, zinnias and more. Her floral workshop in her home is her happy place where she creates a wide range of unique and seasonal designs and fills custom orders.

When she is not in the garden or floral workshop you can find Katy busy taking care of her two kids or spending time with her husband. She loves baking, drinking a good cup of coffee, eating ice cream and traveling.

Back Porch Petals:

Established in 2021, Back Porch Petals is located in the Cincinnati suburb of Liberty Township, Ohio. Specializing in wedding and event flowers, fresh from the garden blooms, hand crafted arrangements and seasonal creations. Katy incorporates locally and home grown materials into as many of her designs as possible with hopes of providing the freshest flowers to the local community.

A few years ago Katy started sharing a wide range of crafts, recipes, flower tutorials and gardening information on a blog. Over those years Katy also began expanding her gardens in her suburban backyard to include first a pollinator garden followed by more and more cut flower gardens. At the beginning of 2020 she bought a mixed box of dahlia tubers and planted them in the garden bed along her back patio ... the rest was history.

The end of that summer the garden was filled with colorful and gorgeous dahlia flowers. Almost daily Katy would cut flowers and bring them to her back porch and sit and enjoy her kids playing in the yard right alongside all of the thriving gardens.

The next year she decided to start a flower business to share her blooms, and after throwing around tons of names she decided to name it after one of her favorite places to be; on the back porch with her family enjoying the flowers and gardens around the yard.
