Easy DIY Centerpiece!
Do you need a really easy centerpiece for a banquet, party, or wedding? A floating flower centerpiece is a simple and very inexpensive way to display a fresh bloom. The best part is it still looks elegant and can be done by anyone without needing a professional florist!
What I like so much about making this simple centerpiece is that you can make it so many different ways or add extra decor around the vase to achieve the look that is desired. The main concept of the centerpiece is that you start with a small round vase, add some stones or rocks to the bottom, add water, and then simply float a flower on top. Then you could add tea lights around the vase for an evening event, or other decorations around that go with the theme of the event. Another option would be to use a couple of vases that are varying levels and have a flower floating in each. Like I said, so many options!
I had some beautiful small dahlias growing in my garden this year and I wanted to display some of the blooms before they were done growing for the season. My son and I picked a few blooms and brought them in to make one of these easy centerpieces together. (The key word there is together, it is so easy that my 4 year old helped me make it!) Although I used garden flowers, you could easily do this with any flowers you pick up at the store. My only suggestion would be to use flowers that have a flat bloom like a dahlia, chrysanthemum, sunflower, etc. These types of flowers will stay a-float and the petals will not get water logged as fast.
Below are my step by step directions along with pictures. This project allows a lot of room for creativity, so have fun with it!
Materials Needed:
- Bubble/Fish bowl type flower vase
- Decorative stones
- Water
- Flower bloom(s)
- Tea Lights (or any decorations for the exterior of the centerpiece)
Creating Centerpiece...
Place decorative stones in bottom of flower vase...
Fill vase about halfway with water...
Place bloom(s) into water carefully so that they can float...
- Be sure to trim stem completely off the flower.
- These blooms were small so instead there are three flowers in this larger vase.
Add any additional decor depending on the occasion...
- Add some tealights around the vase for a soft/romantic look, perfect for a wedding.
- You could also add any variety of decorations around the vase or on the table to enhance the look of your centerpiece.
Enjoy this easy centerpiece for a couple of days!
