Simple and Delicious Apple Crisp
Apple crisp is such a great dessert any time of the year. This is a recipe that was passed down to me from my maternal grandmother, and it is one of my go-to desserts because it is so easy and delicious. I love the flavors of nutmeg and cinnamon that shine through and the crunch of the topping paired with the soft baked apple. My favorite way to serve it is fresh out of the oven with a couple of scoops of ice cream on top.
Below are step by step pictures to help you along, followed by the printable recipe!
A couple of tips for making apple crisp...
- I recommend using Granny Smith Apples- they are my favorite baking apple. But, if you have apples in your refrigerator that you need to use up I would not hesitate to use them in this recipe!
- Make sure the butter is very soft, but not melted to create your topping.
- Be sure to let the crisp bake the full time. It needs the time for the topping to become crunchy and the apples to bake evenly.
Start by peeling the skin off of the apples...
Next, core and slice the apples into bite size pieces...
Place sliced apples into greased baking dish...
- Just lightly spray your baking dish with a cooking oil, just enough to prevent anything from sticking.
Next, it is time to start making the crisp topping...
- Measure out all of the dry ingredients into a mixing bowl.
- Add the softened butter.
Combine the ingredients for the topping...
- Use a pastry blender or your hands to thoroughly combine all of the ingredients.
- The mixture should be moist and resemble a crumble.
Finally, spread crumble topping over the top of the sliced apples until completely covered...
Bake Apple Crisp at 375 degrees for 30-35 minutes...
Serve warm, and of course I highly recommend ice cream on top!
