Perfectly Simple Berry Crisp
A couple of weeks ago I had some blueberries and cut strawberries that needed to be used up before they went bad. I decided that I wanted to make an easy dessert that also was just yummy comfort food. So, I made my own version of a berry crisp that is very similar to my apple crisp recipe.
This berry crisp recipe is so easy and only has four simple steps. Plus most of the ingredients are ones I have on hand all of the time! Check out all of the details and my recipe below!
A lot of recipes for berry crisps that you see have you adding a sweetener to the berries like honey or sugar, but I don't think that is necessary unless you like it super sweet. You also could use other berries in the mix, such as raspberries or blackberries. I just happened to have the strawberries and blueberries on hand, so they were what I used.
The main difference between this recipe and my apple crisp is that I left the nutmeg out of the crumble topping in this recipe, because I wasn't sure I would like the flavor with the tart berries. I think the cinnamon was just enough for the little bit of flavor needed in the topping.
Just like the apple, this berry crisp is so good fresh out of the oven! The fruit cooks down just enough and the topping adds the perfect amount of sweetness and texture. Of course I would always recommend serving it warm with a big scoop of ice cream, but that's personal preference!
