Chewy - O's

A delicious and gooey dessert bar that is made with only 6 ingredients! Super simple with very little prep work and ready in less than 30 minutes! #dessert #chocolate #marshmallow #gooey #easydessert

The other day I cleaned out and organized my pantry. I found a few items that were nearing expiration so I decided I would use my great grandmother's recipes and see what creative way I could use some of them up. Low and behold I found a recipe that made a delicious sounding dessert bar that could use up 3 of my items that were expiring; Chewy - O's!

ingredients needed to make chewy-o's

So, I have never heard of Chewy - O's before, and definitely have never made this recipe. But, they sounded sweet, gooey, and chocolatey so that equals a possible winner in my book! This recipe only called for a few ingredients, and was really easy to prepare, so even better!

cake mix poured on baking sheet

To start this recipe you just pour cake mix onto melted butter and did not add anything else. I've never done that before, so I was skeptical. But, it made a pretty yummy bottom crust, so interesting new way to make the bottom layer of a dessert bar.

The bars did come out really good, very gooey, chocolatey and messy! The only thing I didn't love was the way the Cheerios turned out in the end product. They were kind of chewy once baked, so I am wondering if there is an alternative cereal that would taste better. On the other hand my husband liked the Cheerios, but wants me to try making them with Rice Krispies. Might have to experiment!
