Biscuit Cinnamon Rolls
I decided a while ago that I wanted to start working on baking my way through my great grandmother's collection of recipes. She was a wonderful baker and had quite the collection of baking recipes that she had compiled over time from friends, neighbors, church, grange, and 4-H, to name a few. When I looked through her recipes I decided to start simple with her recipe to make biscuits, which included 15 variations to the recipe. The first variation I decided to try was cinnamon rolls!
I was a little unsure of trying to conquer making a cinnamon roll especially with biscuit dough. But, this was actually a very easy recipe to follow. I was easily able to make everything the morning of, so no prep work needed. I also whipped up the cream cheese icing that morning while the rolls were baking, because it seemed like the perfect topping for them!
As for cinnamon rolls made out of biscuit dough, they were surprisingly good. A little drier than a traditional cinnamon roll, but the icing helped with that. The main change I would make, if I made them again, is I would add more cinnamon sugar.
If I was short on time I also would consider using a store bought cream cheese icing. It would be equally as tasty and have less clean up than making it at home. No matter what, I would definitely recommend some type of icing topping for them, it definitely balances the texture of the biscuit dough.
I definitely encourage you to give making homemade cinnamon rolls a try! It is a great treat for a weekend morning and pairs perfect with a cup of coffee!
