Adorable DIY Heart Wreath

Step by step tutorial with pictures to make an easy and adorable heart wreath. Perfect craft to make for Valentine's Day decorating! #diywreath #heartwreath #easywreath #valentinesday #valentinescraft

After putting all of my Christmas decorations away and doing a little organization I was really enjoying having my house somewhat back to normal. But after a couple weeks I realized I am missing some of the color that all of those fun decorations add around the house. I got to thinking it would be a great time to add some Valentine's Day decorations. Except there was only one problem: I don't really have any! Which gave me the perfect excuse to get to work making some!

This little heart wreath was inspired by a much larger wreath I have up in my house year round. I love the simplicity of just adding decor to one side and then leaving the rest of the heart visible. This was such an easy wreath to make and adds a nice pop of red color into my house!

Below I have listed all of the materials needed and a tutorial with pictures to help you make one of your own! All of my supplies came from Hobby Lobby or Amazon, and links are provided for everything I used!

materials needed to make heart wreath

Materials Used:

Wiring Decorations to a Wreath...

wiring greens to wreath

It's important to be sure to wire everything on to the wreath. This will hold it all in place over time. Also, you can use the wire to help pull and hold the stems in any desired direction.

Before you start, make sure you have pieces of floral wire ready to use.

To wire the stems of greens or flowers wrap a piece of floral wire around the stem and the wreath and pull it really tight. Then twist it (like a twisty tie) as tightly to the wreath as you can. Finally, trim any long pieces off of the wire and tuck the end into the wreath.

Be sure the wire is somewhat hidden or camouflaged on the front and only wire each stem in one or two places. You want the wire to be holding things in place, but not detracting from the look of your wreath.

How to Make the Heart Wreath...

Add the green stems first...

Attach one stem of greens at a time; wiring each one on to the wreath.

Place the stems going opposite directions.

Next, attach the flowers...

Again, place one stem of flowers in each direction. Be sure that the flowers are slightly lower than the greens so that the greens will not be hidden.

Be sure to wire the flower stems on as well.

Cut and Attach Metal Heart Pick...

If you add a pick onto your wreath, it probably has a 6-12 inch stick or rod attached so that it can be used in a flower arrangement. Since this is not needed for the wreath you can cut it down to just a couple of inches.

After cutting the metal piece on the pick down, run a piece of floral wire through the bottom of the heart. Then bury the stick into the flowers to hide it and wire the heart onto the wreath.

Attach Bow...

Make a small wreath bow using wired edge red ribbon. (If you want a tutorial on how to make a bow I have one on my Instagram profile!)

Position the bow on the middle of the wreath to hide the ends of stems and any wire. Wrap the bow wire around the wreath and wire it on as well.

Make any final adjustments and enjoy!

If the stems of flowers or greens are sticking too far above the top of the heart (like picture above) they probably need to be wired down to flow more with the curve at the top of the wreath. If there are stray flowers or greens that are unappealing you could also carefully trim them off.

Once you have the wreath looking the way you want, hang up and enjoy!
